Not ready to put it under the knife.

Can't stand the thought of having a disabled car for three months with crap scattered everywhere. so the engine removal shall be the final phase, not the first.

I am going to locate a sub frame complete with 5 Speed gearbox, rack and pinion, drive shafts, hubs and brakes...This "Electric Sub Frame" will be a stand alone running system which will be interchanged with existing gas system at the final project phase.

Got a little shopping to do!

Solar Saturn SG..sin gas

Solar Saturn SG..sin gas.........2002 Saturn SL

Bought this 2002 Saturn SL for conversion to electric and to educate myself with the process.
Launch date August 01 2009 with an optimistic projection of of 12 weeks.
I have to mention that my origional idea was to convert my 2005 Nissan SER... on hold for now.
Solar Saturn will serve as a prototype to develop various systems, I have decided not to use lead batteries as I see little use for them moving forward.
My initial objective is to test a DC 156 volt system using LiFePo4 batteries, maintaining the origional weight distribution and curb weight of 2300lb.
What makes this project interesting for me is the fact that I have no garage and plan on a conversion time of 20 hours, all engineering and construction will be on a back-up subframe.
Will keep you posted...Terry
